Epiacum Roman Fort is a scheduled ancient monument with a unique lozenge shape and impressive ramparts. Located on an upland working farm in the South Tyne valley 2 miles north of Alston. Follow one of our trail leaflets to explore this rich history while the lapwings and curlews wheel overhead with calls heard centuries ago. Kids and the young at heart can follow our Venatus trail over the Roman fort with clues to solve on your journey. Visit the bastle house to discover our “border reiver” exhibition. Come prepared for the changeable weather and rugged countryside.
